I think the most important thing in self-portraiture is envisioning who you are rather then who you wish to be. my impression so far of this project is its supposed to be all about you, not who you want to be. I think its really important to show the things that currently make you who you are. If that means portraying something from your past, or simply showing your interests and hobbies. Either way, its important to show yourself how you see yourself and not try to be anything else. If someone were to get dressed up, spend a lot of money on their outfit and take a self portrait at them self at their "best", when really they are a basketball player and they feel most like themselves in their uniform. That isn't being honest and there fore the self portrait wouldn't be the best it could be. I think people will like your photo more if its not showing you at your best, but showing you at your realest or most true moment. Reality inst supposed to be perfect and people will appreciate and respect your honesty.
